ABBY SIMONE - EP REVIEW

Abby Simone - No Expectations EP (Three Six
Zero Recordings/Sony)

Release Date: Out Now

This is the debut offering from Singaporean artist Abby Simone and one the should, by rights, signal the start of something pretty special. 'No Expectations' introduces an artist who has the voice and the songs to really turn heads and stop you in your tracks. Opening with the title track, there's a sultry lilt to the rhythm which will have you dipping your hip and moving your shoulders in time to the music involuntarily but entirely blissfully. 'For Once' is more of a club track with hints of Jessie Ware and Dua Lipa in the vocals as the pulsating beat and sparse melodies take a back seat, quite rightly.

On 'Walking Away', Abby Simone drops everything down to intensely intimate levels with the gently rippling guitar notes and whispered vocals luring you in to a song that slowly builds in to the kind of song that lifts your spirit and elevates your mood in the most beautiful way. Final track, 'Same Sunrise', is where my love affair with this artist started when it was released as a single but it still stands the test of time as the Latin inspired sundownder guitars and soulful vocals help you drift away on a cloud of jasmine and mojito fumes. This is the kind of EP you should slip in to at the end of a tough day or maybe at the beginning of every day, just to put you in the right frame of mind. Blissful stuff.
