I absolutely love the lurching,
lumbering energy behind the acoustic strum of this song, it sounds as though
the weight of the world is hanging on each string. The chorus of ‘Gimme What
You Got!’, however, kicks up into a searing and anthemic space with the energy
to see you through the hardest of times. This is the music of Tom West and it
combines bluesy, rootsy stomps with indie song writing and the kind of voice
that should be underestimated at your peril. There are no straight comparisons
here but flavours of Dylan, John Grant, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper and the
National all mixed in there with a little seasoning to taste. It’s a chef’s kiss
of a tune.
