With Zimbabwean and American
roots, Shungudzo was always going to have to an interesting take on the world
and that usually makes for interesting music. ‘White Parents’ is definitely
interesting but its more than that as Shungudzo mixes grooves,
indie-grunge-punk energy and vocals with the kind of performative qualities
that PJ Harvey or Christine & the Queens normally exude. This is a track
that has protest at its heart but that doesn’t stop it from being infectious,
immediate and the kind of song you hit play on again as soon as its finished.
