Maya Malkin – Congratulations

Toronto’s Maya Malkin is giving
her ex the finger on new single ‘Congratulations’ which is, in no way, like the
Cliff Richard tune of the same name. This opens up like a Madison Beer track
with just a vocal wishing “Congratulations, for being so popular” with a tongue
firmly in her cheek. A slow, chugging guitar line joins in and the song starts
to grow in confidence and when the chorus drops this is a bona fide banger to
put your arms in the air to and sing with your besties. Malkin’s voice does the
quiet to loud thing perfectly alongside the calm to angry shtick and this is a
definite for anyone’s break-up playlist (once you’re beyond the crying phase,
of course).
