I’m genuinely running out of ways
to describe the excellent Lauran Hibberd and her unerring ability to churn out
catchy, punchy and immediate indie-pop bangers. ‘Old Nudes’ is the latest
release from the Isle of Wighter (Wightian?) and Hibberd brings her A-game with
chunky fuzzed up chords, sugary sweet vocals and deadpan lyrics like “He has a
dirty photo of me and he’s stored it on his iPhone 3, you see it by the look in
my thighs, want you to send it to some bigger guys”. Musically, this hangs around
at the mall with the likes of Weezer, Charly Bliss and Fountaines of Wayne but
with that added English charm that makes this all the more biting. There’s a
cheeky little lockdown video to go along with this as well, just for kicks.
