Release Date: Out Now
Mancunian Alf Whitby might sound like a saucy bus driver from the 60s but he’s actually a deeply talented artist with a new album on the way. However, before we get to that, there’s this delightfully wistful single to deal with and ‘Beach’ takes a little dealing with. The softest of touches on the guitar and the faintest of vocals drift in on an Irish Sea breeze creating the kind of soundscape that has the structural integrity of mist but the power of a hot knife through flesh. There are elements of Thom Yorke to the vocals and more than a hint of Nick Drake to the arrangements but this is mainly Alf Whitby in his own unique beauty.
