The title ‘Lupins’ instantly evokes memories of a Monty Python sketch for me but I’ve had to put this aside for the new single by Rachael Cardiello’s vehicle, Zinnia. The Toronto artist has an absolutely gorgeous voice with an arresting quality that instantly brings you in to the moment and stops the world from spinning around you. Scattered drums and a soft, mellow key melody create a bed for that voice to lie upon with hints of Feist and Regina Spektor around the edges. Zinnia is absolutely perfect for the end of the night whether you’re alone and full of regret or getting in to bed with partner and full of regret.
