MOZES & THE FIRSTBORN – SINGLE REVIEW

Mozes & the Firstborn – Sad Supermarket
Mozes & the Firstborn - Sad Supermarket Song
Song (Burger Records)

Release Date: Out Now

Mozes & the Firstborn might hail from Antwerp but their sound owes a lot to the 90s Seattle scene and that is a very good thing. ‘Sad Supermarket Song’ has more than a touch of Nirvana about it while the scratchy video shot in a supermarket and surrounding areas is pure 90s lo-fi fun a la Lemonheads, Weezer or even Bush. The boredom, frustration and pent up anger is there for all to see but played out in front of a backdrop of endless aisles of pointless yet unavoidable consumerism. The Dutch quartet are currently wooing American audiences before heading back for a trio of European dates in March and I’d be surprised not to see them crop up on a few festival line-ups for this summer too – the perfect post-Brexit melancholia to jam out to.
