This is one of those powerful
tracks that transports you instantly to a very specific place and time, even if
it’s a place and time that you’ve yet to experience. The dreamy but menacing
flow of the mysterious Miss Red on new track ‘One Shot Killer’ takes you to a
never ending warren of corridors with flashing lights, dripping black paint and
an uneasy sense that you have to keep moving forwards to find the source of
this siren song. The minor key melodies and lightly industrial beats create an
ambience not unlike the early releases from Portishead and Tricky while Miss
Red’s delivery comes from a parallel universe where Rihanna is taken under the
wing of M.I.A. and Neneh Cherry until
she lets her inner darkness rise to the surface. Unsettling but compelling and
that’s a mix I can dig.
