KYLE FALCONER – SINGLE REVIEW

Kyle Falconer – Family Tree
Kyle Falconer - Family Tree

Release Date: Out Now

According to the press accompanying this track, this was released to coincide with Father’s Day in the UK which seems unlikely given that Kyle Falconer doesn’t seem particularly commercially cynical and I’m not sure his target market is a bunch of kids buying presents for their ever-suffering fathers. Nevertheless, ‘Family Tree’ is another belter of a track from the former the View frontman and it is, at least, about being a dad. The Belle & Sebastian melodies blend with a more direct indie-rock delivery and Falconer’s distinctively delicious vocal that drips with pathos and a life fully lived. “I’m working on me and the family, I’m growing up you see, I’m putting bottles of Whiskey and Vodka behind me. I’m working on the family tree” goes the chorus and you can feel the joy in Falconer’s voice as he faces the prospect of this new chapter. I don’t think he’s ready to take up cycling and green tea yet but Falconer is growing up personally and musically and it’s a great journey to go along with him on.
