IDLES – SINGLE REVIEW

Idles – Colossus
Idles - Colossus

Release Date: Out Now

If you’ve not yet had the pleasure, if ‘pleasure’ is the right word, then I suggest you come get yourself a slice of Bristol band Idles. Stat. New single ‘Colossus’ is the first new material from the band since their critically acclaimed last album and it is brutal. The sinister click of the drum sticks and grinding bass notes that introduce this track let you know that something wicked this way comes. “Forgive me Father, I have sinned, I drained my body full of pins” goes the teeth-clenched lyric atop the increasingly intense thundering horses-hooves of that rhythm section while the guitars swirl and gyrate. The crescendo gives out at around the four-minute mark for a brief pause before the craziness kicks back in with the simple message, “I don’t want to be your man”. This is a song in support of not living up to masculine stereotypes but delivered with such pent-up aggression and bravado that it’s going to confuse a butt-load of meat heads. Which is always fun. As is watching someone dressed as Evel Knievel do topiary which is in the video. So, like I say, come get yourself a slice.
