THYLA – SINGLE REVIEW

Release Date: Out Now

Rarely has indie-pop sounded so utterly fresh and urgent as it does coming out of the orifices of Brighton quartet Thyla and that’s probably why they are on everyone’s lips (the bands name, you understand, not the orifices). Latest single ‘Blame’ gets right down to business with a fantastic low slung bass and the no-messing vocals of frontwoman Millie. I’m immediately transported back to first discovering bands like Echobelly, Hole, Veruca Salt, Breeders and Sleater Kinney but it’s the candy-floss sweet melodies that make this so bloody moreish and easy to swallow. Listen closely to the lyrics though and you’ll realise that this sugar is only being used to help the medicine go down, “I look dumb in this pretty little dress and make up but here I am” sings Millie like a south-coast Courtney Love ready to explode.
