Now, here’s a treat for you if
your ‘thing’ is soulful pop-meets-RnB with a sense of class and fun in equal
measure. Koko Clay (great name whether it’s real or not) and her new single, ‘In
The Dark’, hits hard and funky from the get-go and then settles in to a pattern
of getting the party started with deep bass drones, tight guitar melodies and
the kind of beat that makes you want to stride on to a dance floor with flair.
Koko Clay has the kind of voice that can do deep, soulful and dusky but there’s
also a side to her that can do triumphant and life affirming as well which is
what gives this tune a blend of Whitney Houston and Laura Mvula but with a
Scissor Sisters dirty disco vibe going on in the background and I think that’s
a party we all want to get invited to.
