A rare foray into the Northern
Irish music scene now with Belfast’s Bassh (aka Jimmy Brown) and the new single
‘Go To’. Breathy vocals and some subtle beats are intermingled with some
sprinkled melodies before the guitars kick in for the chorus to give this some edge.
Once we hit our stride it’s like having the urgency of Young Knives welded to
the melodies and atmosphere of the Maccabees and the dance sensibilities of
Years & Years. There’s a slightly uncomfortable video that seems to feature
the grainy CCTV footage of a couple getting it on in a lift which never quite
gives you the money shot but it works with the tension and frustration in the
music. A complete package.
