SHANNON WARDROP - SINGLE REVIEW

Shannon Wardrop - I Wanna Be Your Lady
Shannon Wardrop - I Wanna Be Your Lady

There are literally hundreds of female singer-songwriters on the scene at the moment. So many that I sometimes wonder if they are just roaming the streets with tousled hair, a guitar and a pair of brown leather shoes. Shannon Wardrop is the next one of these to walk around the street corner but the Maidenhead maid has something different about her and 'I Wanna Be Your Lady' is the perfect example of just how she stands out from the crowd. The free download is knee deep in influences but Wardrop has been stomping so hard that they're indistinguishable from one another. I detect some Sheryl Crow and Aimee Mann in the vocal delivery, some Belly in the drum sounds and some Violent Femmes and Indigo Girls in the guitar qualities. However, it is the laid back influence of the 60s and 70s that you really don't expect. From West Coast freak outs to the influences of Indian music brought to Western ears by the Beatles et al, Wardrop has clearly grown up in a house with an outstanding record collection and we are all now reaping the rewards.
