VILLIERS - SINGLE REVIEW

Villiers - The Dancer (Jack To Phono Records)
Villiers - The Dancer

Release Date: 12th June 2014

Big things are being said about Villiers, big promising things about them being hot new kids on the block (nothing like the actual New Kids On The Block though, that could never happen). Now, normally, that would make me a little suspicious of a band when the hype hits me before the music but on the evidence of 'The Dancer' these guys may actually be on to something. Big, dark brooding synths introduce the track which has industrial overtones but when the subdued vocals of Dan Earnshaw kick in there is definitely something more indie about this than there is metal. Think somewhere between Depeche Mode, Editors, Delphic and Interpol and you're probably hitting this fairly square on. The irony, of course, is that this is about as easy to dance to as the Lord's prayer but then maybe that's not the point. Nevertheless, if you like your indie with an 80s electro tint to it then you need to get Villiers in your life, and soon.
