Roo is a Dorset lad and he seems
to be a thoroughly decent chap on the basis of a quick nosey round his Facebook
page even though he is named after the smaller of the two kangaroos in Winnie
the Pooh. One can only assume that his new single, 'Tiger Striped Sky', is
about his sister who was named after the uniquely bouncy one. It's not, of
course. No, what this is in all reality is a piece of understated beauty that
the likes of Laura Marling, Jose Gonzalez or Avert Francis would be utterly
charmed by. Panes' voice is deep and earthy with nothing frilly about it while
the song is straight to the point and without waste. This is music from the
country without any fancy city ways but I get the feeling that girls will swoon
and men will pay good money to spend time with Roo Panes - I'm not suggesting
he's an escort or anything, just that he is likely to be pretty popular if the
rest of his material is anything like this single. Sorry, I'm rambling. I'll
shut up now......It's really good though!
