The Pictish Trail - I've Been Set Upon (Moshi Moshi Records)
The Pictish Trail - I've Been Set Upon

Look at those eyes...that beard....that hat...those stern lips. You could just kiss him couldn't you? Wait till you hear his voice! This face and voice belong to The Pictish Trail or Johnny Lynch as he is known down at the local registry office. This first release for his new home on Moshi Moshi records, 'I've Been Set Upon'  is a delightfully melancholy sliver of aerated pop where distant and unhinged pianos play solemnly under Lynch's sweet, soft vocal. This is not party music, unless you count wakes as parties, but there is a serenity and ease to the music created by The Pictish Trail that is like a warm, smooth whisky on a cold, wet night. Sliiiide on in folks, it's free after all.
