Krooked Tongue - I Know A Place
Release Date: 24th April 2026
I've been championing Bristol's Krooked Tongue on this humble blog for a while now so I'm delighted to finally get my ears around the band's debut album. 'I Know A Place' is a ten track collection that proves that both rock'n'roll and bands are still very much alive and kicking so let's dive in, shall we? We start with the title track (where else?) and the scene is set with atmospheric guitars that build tension along with the thumping drums until we emerge into a cinematic, 80s rock inspired landscape. 'Let 'Em Loose' is a more straight-up grunge-rock track that burns and bristles with the kind of energy that would wear sunglasses in the corner of a nightclub.
'Ember Mile' has a more stylish swagger to it, happy to stand out from the crowd and draw the attention that it demands - a three piece suit at a football match, if you will. The style continues in the slinky guitar riff of 'Dog Days', tempting you towards escapism, while recent single 'You Don't Need A Sun Tan' bounces and thrills with the energy of skipping work and escaping to the coast with your best mates (sun cream applied first, of course). The intensity and energy keeps rising with 'Blood Shark', a relentlessly pounding track that weaves in and out of traffic on a mission to get you where your going without sparing any horses.
The buzz saw guitars of 'Nothing Ever Grows' makes this my favourite track of the album with a mix of Royal Blood, Cooper Temple Clause, and Monster Truck making this the kind of stadium ready rock song that draw you in to the Krooked Tongues universe. The dreamy indie of 'Marigold' brings back those aforementioned 80s influences with panache before penultimate track 'Drugstore Cowboy' goes all hedonistic joyride on us with fuzzed up guitars for company. The album climaxes with the sweeping piano ballad of 'I Don't Believe In Ghosts', the perfect music for the credits to roll up to - white text on a black background, of course. And I think that's the beauty if this album, it's a soundtrack to a film that nobody has made yet and every day we each follow a script that nobody has soundtracked. A brave and brilliant debut.
