MATTHEW C. WHITAKER - SINGLE REVIEW

Matthew C. Whitaker - Chestnut Tree

Release Date: Out Now

Matthew C. Whitaker's new album comes out in a week or so and is called 'Songs For The Weary' which means it is already likely to fit me like a glove but, until then, I must sate myself with this new single. 'Chestnut Tree' is a jaunty little number with a certain suave energy and an eccentricity that reeks of the English songwriter style. The acoustic guitar provides a summery vibe while Whitaker's vocal is both breathy and mildly insidious in the way it creeps into your consciousness riding on the back of some stylish strings. There is a lot going on in this song despite the seemingly sparse instrumentation and that bodes well for the album, although I am strangely feeling less weary after giving this one a spin....
