Eugene McGuinness - London
Release Date: Out Now
As the saying goes, if you're tired of London then you're tired of life but that doesn't stop you needing to take a break from the old girl once in a while. Eugene McGuinness is London born but of Irish parentage so has a safe emotional distance from the city and that has allowed him to create this wonderfully wry ode. 'London' is a love song but a weary one set to an appropriately laconic acoustic strum and woozy violin melody as McGuinness sings brilliant dry lyrics like "London I love you but you've stung me and you only want me for my money, the money that you just won't let me have". Taking on elements of the Divine Comedy, Richard Hawley and David Kitt, this track subtly gets under your skin whether you've danced the dance with London or not. Oh, and the video is a slice of subdued artistry as well.
