AVA RENN - ALBUM REVIEW

Ava Renn - Lightning Child

Release Date: 14th November 2025

Discovering Ava Renn in 2025 has been a real treat but this album is insanely good so its team to share that treat with the world. 'Lightning Child' opens with the loose beat and soulful vocals of 'Hands' with a funky bass line woven through it until a drum breakdown sends us off at an angle into more experimental territory with System Of A Down vibes. Recent single 'Dog Eyes' is still a howlingly good blues'n'roll stomp while 'None The Wiser' has a brooding energy to it that sits somewhere between the Nicotines and Evanescence.

The acoustic and atmospheric 'The Wind Chimes' initially shows off a more delicate side to Renn's vocal but the song does swell into something quite bombastic by the end. On 'See What I've Seen' we get back into the groove with a snarling guitar and vocals that have seen things before 'Woman Of The Wind' cries across a desert plain with a sense of yearning and loss. '6's to 7's' is possibly the closest Renn will come to tapping into a TikTok trend for Gen Alpha but the song itself is actually a dark and menacing beast prowling the alleys and backstreets in search of prey.

The 'Halo Moon Interlude' is a beautifully gentle interlude that leads us into the title track and 'Lightning Child' rocks out like the prodigal daughter of Audioslave and Monster Truck. Penultimate track 'Still Through It All' has a tense energy in the chugging guitars and subtle piano before we get to the climax of 'The Clearing', the kind of song designed to show off the rich, dark, and luxurious vocals that make Ava Renn stand out among her peers. This is a special album by a very special artist so if you like your music with depth and richness then you're in luck.
