Luvcat - Vicious Delicious (AWAL)
Release Date: 31st October 2025
Tremors. Rumblings. Excited murmurs. All this and more has been caused by Luvcat's showstopping arrival on the scene in 2025 and we're only now just getting to the debut album. To say 'Vicious Delicious' has been hotly anticipated would be an oversized understatement but now we get to the real proof of the pudding; the eating.
We start with the spooky melody of 'Lipstick', introducing us to the Luvcat sound whilst parading around the stage like a combination of a ringmaster and Moulin Rouge MC who has just been jilted and found solace in the bottom of a bottle. 'Alien', by contrast, is a dreamier pop affair with closer parallels to Lana Del Rey while 'Matador' returns to the darker, more theatrical side of this album which feels like Lady Gaga but with Shakira in the production team giving pointers on the Latin flavours. The multi-cultural flavours continue on 'Dinner @ Brasserie Zedel' with Spanish guitars creating a sombre tone for the vocals to unfurl on luxuriously as though auditioning for the next Tim Burton soundtrack.
'He's My Man' is Hitchcockian love song full of macabre tones and maladies set to melodious before title track 'Vicious Delicious' takes us on a night time prowl down Camden high street where the weird, wonderful and beautiful people are. There's an 80s vibe to the synth pop of 'Love & Money' but a more 70s sound to the chorus strum as the song takes its lead from the summer of love and Wall Street in equal parts. The spookier melodies return on the ballad 'Spider' while 'Emma Dilemma' has an almost trip-hop beat beneath the drawn out vocal groans and moans.
'The Kazimier Garden' goes full haunted house on us for 90 seconds of pure rocking-chair-moving-on-its-own vibes before 'Laurie' takes us to a far more wholesome place with a lovesick song that has swooning strings and a 90s romcom heart. Penultimate track 'Blushing' is the perfect roadtrip song when you can't stand the distance between you and your beau anymore but closing track 'Bad Books' mixes Amy Winehouse charm with Sneaker Pimps menace to send us off into the night with a little wickedness on our minds. There is so much to unpack on this album and a wealth of influences, styles and moods to delve into but the main takeaway is that in Luvcat we have a British artist with the substance to back up the abundance of style and that is not something to turn your back on.
