The impish sound and Asian influences on this latest MALKA release are so refreshing and playful that it lifts your spirits immediately. 'The Sun Is Going Down' clitters and clatters with off kilter energy before MALKA's vocals weave a hypnotic melody throughout and the bass fills in the gaps like oozing, warm treacle. The cinematic quality to this song makes me want to take it to Wes Anderson and play it on a boombox outside his house until he uses it for his next film - presumably the unlikely adventures of a Scottish singer-songwriter who is lost in the Japanese mountains and befriends the monkeys. Or something.
