I'm pretty sure I've said it before but I love Big Special, I just hate that they have to exist to hold a musical mirror up to society right now. The duo's surprise new single, 'God Save The Pony', has a lumbering energy like someone emerging into the bright morning light after a night of drinking, world righting and nefariousness. As always, the poetic lyrics are the headline act with lines like "it's all potholes and the price of fish and how a Conservative therapist off Wish saved me £13.66 from my electricity bill" existing only a world in which Big Special do. If you've yet to have the pleasure then imagine a band of nepobabies from the loins of John Cooper-Clarke, Iggy Pop and the KLF ganging together in an orphanage in the Midlands and you're half-way there.
