Tremoans - Cat Fight EP (Krautpop!)
Release Date: Out Now
Cornish outfit Tremoans have released, nay, unleashed their debut EP upon the world and, if you know what's good for you, you'll get your ears around the 'Cat Fight' EP. The first of the six tracks is the title track 'Cat Fight' is riot-grrl, garage punk rawness delivered through highly strung guitars and chugging drums underpinned the gang vocals. 'Bunting' grunts along with a bass line, feedback and lyrics about festival etiquette including the chorus line "put your bunting away" which might be the most English punk lyric ever. '?Donde?' has shown up my inability to find the inverted question mark on my laptop but musically it's a simple but throbbing demand for the beach which sits somewhere between Kraftwerk, LCD Soundsystem and the Presidents of the United States of America.
The second half of the EP kicks off with 'Party Line', a raw, jerky and slightly chaotic track that feels almost shackled by the recorded format so probably comes more alive on stage. 'Choices', by contrast, is about as energetic and perky as you can get on record with guitars and drums duelling in a way that means you can almost hear the pogoing through the speakers. Closing track 'Marmite' is 88 seconds of intense, stop-start punk presenting reasoned arguments both for and against the yeast based spread. There is an energy and a fizz to this EP that is infectious and makes me want to be in a sweaty venue or a small tent jumping around to chaotic music like this. Love it.
