Natalie Wildgoose – Come Into The Garden EP
Release Date: Out Now
In a world of noise, chaos and sensory overload, we all need a little Natalie Wildgoose in our lives. The ‘Come Into The Garden’ EP is a tranquil lake of a collection that starts with the wispy, folkish tones of ‘Introduction’ to cleanse your palate and clear your mind. Then comes ‘Hand Me a Piece Of Your Heart’ which sounds like a lullaby from a long forgotten age with sepia melodies and Bagpuss curled up in the corner of the studio. On ‘I Lingered’, Wildgoose treats us to an intimate combination of wonky piano and breathy but sweet vocals that float like candyfloss clouds across the moors before ‘Blackberries’ takes on an Appalachian tone with a whistle in the vocals and a limping lilt to the guitar playing that puts me in mind of early Laura Marling compositions.
The Victrola turns lazily again as ‘Angel’ slowly and hauntingly fills the room, waltzing between the needle clicks and making the lights flicker dimly all around. The EP closes on the title track, ‘Come Into The Garden’, as soothing a song as ever you heard with wandering piano notes, rippling melodies and Wildgoose’s warm, easy vocal gently bending the reeds by the riverside. This is a stunning EP full of soft, empathetic music but my main takeaway is that I really need to get out and spend some time in nature soon so that I can reconnect with the best parts of this world.
