Back in the 90s, Miki Berenyi was a bit of a hero for me - a definite sign that there was a world outside my sleepy Westcountry upbringing with something to say for itself. Now, the former Lush pioneer is back with her new three piece the Miki Berenyi Trio and they have a new single out in the shape of 'Big I Am' and it is a treat. Funky guitars, chugging bass, an LCD Soundsystem vibe and that's just the first 10 seconds before those trademark dreamy vocals join in weave everything together. There are hints of Stereolab and St Etienne for sure but this track pulls that neat trick of sounding both retro and futuristic at the same time. A neat trick and a great tune.
