The extraordinary and criminally underrated Billy Nomates is back with a new album soon but first comes ‘The Test’, a teaser of a single. Ominously low slung piano notes give this a menacing energy but the driving drums and guitar elevate the tone to make this the kind of song that should be used over festival ‘scenes’ montages on the BBC this summer. There are flavours of Florence + the Machine as well as Christine and the Queens but also strong influences from Moloko and Goldfrapp which make this an instantly loveable and thoroughly enthralling song.
