Multi-national, multi-lingual and multi-talented artist Raissa has dropped a new EP in the shape of the six tracks that make up 'Cute Threat' which is a real treat - especially this late in the year. The EP opens with the title track which bubbles and growls with electric energy while the vocals get delivered with peak Lily Allen meets Kate Nash energy and if you're not sitting up and paying attention then you're missing something. Recent single 'No Genius' continues the perky, electro energy but the vocals have a more soulful sound while 'Penita' is a little more lo-fi, late night club vibe with a processed beat drawing you in before Raissa's hypnotic vocal delivery seals the deal.
The way 'A La Mode' builds and the breathless pop vocal is pure UPSAHL in terms of vibe but with a uniqueness that is impossible to ignore or, indeed, resist. Penultimate track 'Knife' has a light and delicate sound as the skittish beats and bubbling melodies mix like the ingredients of an intoxicating cocktail. There's a real tone shift on the closing track, 'Todo Canta', as we get a simple Spanish guitar melody and Raissa's soft vocal to soothe our troubled souls. I feel like there is no style or genre or artform that Raissa couldn't turn her hand to and that, dear reader, is very exciting indeed.
