Hana Piranha - Toxic

I'm not normally one for reviewing cover versions but when one of my favourite artists covers one of the all time great pop songs then you have to sit up and pay attention. Hana Piranha's take on the Britney classic 'Toxic' is dirty, grungy and intense (as you would expect) with that signature melody played out on a gypsy violin. The vocals are menacing, rocky and just a little bit sensual but it's the explosive chorus that really wins me over with the anger and power required to deliver a those bitter lyrics. Finally, a cover version that doesn't just slow everything down and stick a piano under it.
