Emily Davies - Start Anew

It feels very much appropriate for a song called 'Start Anew' to be coming out at the start of Spring so I can only applaud Emily Davies' sense of timing. The new single from the Devon based singer-songwriter is bathed in gorgeous folk melodies and the honest acoustic strumming that puts me in mind of Laura Marling or Harbottle & Jonas. As Davies' soft, warm vocal joins in like a reassuring friend and the strings swell to add texture, you get a real sense of wholesomeness and nourishment that is rare in new music these days. This song starts with the substance and then moves on to the style but it has plenty of both. Stunning stuff.
