HATTIE WHITEHEAD - SINGLE REVIEW

Hattie Whitehead - I Have Often

Release Date: Out Now

I'm a little bit in love with this track and I really wasn't expecting that reaction. Hattie Whitehead is a London based singer-songwriter who I have only just been introduced to and this latest release, 'I Have Often', is a gorgeous jumping off point. A chiming but somber piano is joined by forlorn cello and a steady if slightly shuffling beat to create sound that is at once heartbroken and hopeful. Vocally, Whitehead has that classic folk sound where she starts off sounding vulnerable but soon grows in confidence to sound like someone who might just emerge, phoenix-like, from the flames of a wreckage of her own making. The video, by the way, is also a brilliantly lo-fi and delightful cut with dry humour and frustration running through it like a stick of confusing seaside rock.
