LIARS TEETH - EP REVIEW

Liars Teeth - Sungrazer EP

Release Date: 20th July 2023

When you hear that a band has been writing music in a 'dingy warehouse in East London' then you expect a certain cookie cutter type band but Liars Teeth didn't use a cookie cutter, they like to go their own way. The band's forthcoming EP, 'Sungrazer', opens with 'Oblivion', an intense and punchy track with subdued vocals that sounds like a mash up of Radiohead, the Cooper Temple Clause and the heavier parts of Maximo Park's angular sound. 'Modern Romance' continues the dark and brooding mood but with a little more space and atmosphere in the verse allowing the chorus to explode more noticeably.

The EP's title track 'Sungrazer' is a soaring and uplifting track with a trademark underbelly sounded out by the grumbling bass but those guitars ring out like the much missed the B of the Bang or a more Anglicised version of the National. The closing track on this collection is 'The Void' which takes a lead from Joy Division initially before erupting in to something more akin to Shihad's blistering riffage. Liars Teeth are the kind of band you could fall deeply and darkly in love with and that is a brilliantly dangerous space to inhabit for any artist.
