I don't think I've written this about an artist before but Gena Rose Bruce reminds me of both Laura Marling and T-Rex which is a neat trick to pull off. 'Foolishly in Love' has the delicate but poised sound of Marling's modern folk stylings and some absolutely stunning vocals to match but the chug of the guitar and softly stomping beat has Marc Bolan running through it like letters in a stick of rock. When the chorus comes round, things turn more to the Kylie Minogue or Goldfrapp end of the spectrum which is as welcome as it is surprising. Marvellous stuff.
