Ironically, my first reference point when listening to the new single from Utrecht quartet Banji was Dutch Uncles but that's never a bad thing. You see, 'Talkie Walkie' has an itchy, pre-occupied and almost irritated energy to it that also brings to mind the likes of Alt-J and Everything Everything. This is high tempo indie-pop with a real knack for melody and hooks that will keep your attention like freshly paired Velcro. I also want to make a claim for this track having one of the best bass performances on record in 2021 keeping a sense of stability while the rest of the track bounces between ADHD and hyperactivity. It's a ride.
