Irish five-piece the Crayon Set may look like a bunch of teachers on their way to the pub at the end of a bloody hard term but they are in fact perveyors of superbly crafted indie-pop. This double-A side starts with 'Summer Song', a track so gentle and bubbling that it almost floats past you on a warm breeze but the lyrics clash as they sing of headaches and fevers. There's a countryish tinge to the melody and the bass line bobs along pleasingly like the rippling of water down a river. 'Rock Star/Dream Girl' is a little more uptempo with a Texas meets Beautiful South (both in their hey days) vibe that is hard to resist. A fine pair of tracks for lilting, lazy summer days that we can all enjoy together.
