At a time when most musicians were getting to grips with Zoom gigs and Facebook live broadcasting, Manu Delago and his band of merry musicians took to their bikes and cycled 1500km around Austria, stopping to play 18 concerts on the way. This wonderful piece of ingenuity is captured on the video for new release 'ReCycling' (see what he's done there?) and for those of us who have been restricted to little more than a daily walk it is a slice of escapist brilliance. There is a touch of Kraftwerk to the structure but with a greater balance of organic and inorganic sounds as trombone and accordion dancing alongside processed beats and robotic vocals. It is the unique sound of the hand pan that takes centre stage, however, as this anthem for living with the earth rather than on it really gets under your skin in the best way possible.
