THIRD GIRL FROM THE LEFT – EP REVIEW

Third Girl From the Left – Oxygen EP

Release Date: 15th January 2021

We had a sneak peak of the talents of Third Girl From the Left last year with her debut single release but now we get an altogether more substantial offering in the shape of her debut EP, ‘Oxygen’. Opening with the title track, this EP gets underway with a subtle energy that mixes some 80s vibes with the late-night intimacy of artists like Moloko or Portishead as the near-whispered vocals draw you in, closer to the flames. ‘Sylvan’, by contrast, has a more folky feel to it with plucked banjo strings and sprinkled melodies weaving in and out of the haunting voice of our protagonist.

On ‘Strange Times’, Third Girl From the Left takes us on a Tarantino inspired meander through the half light between dusk and dawn with shimmering percussion and that superb voice calling out through the dream state. The EP completes its journey with ‘The Rising’ which finds the Devon based artist in romantic mood, singing soft, carefully chosen words atop a gentle but stirring piano melody. Third Girl From The Left is hard to place, eclectic and super talented, all of which bodes very well for the future and makes for a thoroughly enthralling debut EP.
