New Orleans collective Dumpstaphunk
have drafted in sometime Jurassic 5 MC Chali 2na and the self-explanatory
Trombone Shorty for a little extra beef on their anthemic new single, ‘Justice
2020’. With a rhythm section that punches and pops with the best of them, Dumpstaphunk
hit the ground strutting as the soul fuelled vocals of Ivan Neville lead the
march forwards. A rabid horn section, lavish keys and the kind of guitar
playing the Nile Rogers would beam at all add to the mix with a message extoling
the virtues of togetherness, solidarity and equality in the face of hate. Chali
2na adds his unmistakable baritone vocal performance to proceedings and that
shorty sure plays a mean trombone. The bottom line is that here is a band that
have been around for 17 years feeling as fresh as ever so bring your dancing
shoes and let’s get down for justice, yeah?
