FONTAINES D.C. – SINGLE REVIEW

Fontaines D.C. – A Hero’s Death (Partisan
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

2019 belonged, in part, to Irishmen Fontaines D.C. so it’s great to see them not leaving it too long before making their mark on 2020. ‘A Hero’s Death’ is the first single of the forthcoming album and they’ve roped in Aidan Gillen for the video so we’re off to a strong start. The bone rattling beat takes things up a notch, the Merseybeat harmonies gives this a sense of the angelic and then those trademark deadpan vocals let us know, repeatedly, “Life ain’t always empty”. This is the 2020 version of Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Sunscream’ as the band reel off a list of advice for us to live by, soundtracked by the cacophonous crescendo that the band build up like a car driving at full pelt towards a cliff edge with brick on the accelerator.
