Manchester septet (yes, really) the
Horse Puppets really know how to imbue a song with sad romanticism and a sense
of Parisian cool. The band’s new single, ‘Caught You Out’, carries the charm of
Jarvis Cocker and Neil Hannon duetting in a velvet lined room clouded in swirls
of Gauloises smoke and populated by bored looking beauties. The slide of the
guitar notes, the sparse percussion and the low rumble of the carefully chosen
bass notes all make for a thoroughly heartbroken but utterly stunning song that
may well go on to the maybe pile when compiling my funeral playlist.
