Sometimes you need things from
music, to recognise your emotion or to move you in to a different space, but
this new release from Portland’s Kennebec just arrived knowing exactly what I
needed. ‘Abundance/In The Reeds’ is somehow organically mechanical as
clattering rhythms fall like shards of ice on a waterwheel only to be soothed
by the melodies weaving in an out of the reeds. Much like Penguin Café or Cosmo
Sheldrake, Kennebec produces music that transports you, without words or
traditional form, to a place that exists between this world and that of your
dreams. And for that, I am thankful.
