LIKE A VILLAIN – SINGLE REVIEW

Release Date: Out Now

I almost didn’t want to write a review of this new single from Portland’s Like A Villain (Holland Andrews to her mum) because to review it is to take away some of the impact that you get from the first listen. You see, ‘Daughters’ judders in to life with an industrial beat followed by an enormously ominous bass drone representing the beast that can only be tamed by the soothing vocals of Like A Villain. Comparisons are relatively pointless but if you’re looking for something in a nice shade of Portishead or Massive Attack then I think this will fit beautifully. The stark contrast of the minimalist instrumentation and the soulfulness of the vocals is almost post-apocalyptic in its power and the video (no spoilers here) is transfixing to say the least.
