Talented LA pioneer Duckwrth is
back with new single ‘Sallie Mae’ it’s one hell of a trip. Opening with a melody
that sounds like a more sinister version of ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ before
the opening line “Ashes to ashes, dust to dirt, women and children first, no
time for concern” sets the tone for this dystopian vision of the here and now.
Sallie Mae, for those who don’t know, is the bank that owns the trillions of US
student debt and there is a big Decomcratic movement to wipe that debt off.
Duckwrth puts his message across directly, angrily and creatively via this schizophrenic
tune that has one of the best visuals I’ve seen for a long time accompanying
it. If you’re looking for a true American pioneer operating in the sphere of
music then forget Yeezy, Duckwrth is your man.
