Cornish indie lads Blue River
with a new single just in time for the summer which a more cynical person would
call tactical but we all know the Cornish come in to their own when the sun
comes out. ‘Lucy’ is a song dripping in Britpop attitude and with more than a
nod to the brothers Gallagher but I should warn any misophonia sufferers out there
(myself included) that there is a fairly intense drinking sound at the start of
this track. Anyway, musically this is light, breezy, full of potential
adventures and nights out with scratchy indie guitars, a sing-a-long chorus of “Lucy
get on the train” and the odd Beach Boys ‘woo-hoo’. The only question is why
these lads haven’t been added to the bill for the Liam Gallagher show at the
Eden Project this summer – they would get that crowd dancing no trouble.
