Engel & the Mountain People
is the brainchild of Plymouth based musician Luke Engel who is also the
ridiculously talented artist behind the cover artwork and is, like, really,
really good looking too. ‘Just Yesterday’ is the debut release from this
project and it’s a sumptuous ode to the sea which would sit perfectly within a
Harbottle & Jonas set with it’s gentle folk tones and Engel’s soft, smooth
vocal. The picked guitar notes and swelling mood combine perfectly to create a
song full of a swirl of emotions from love to loss, regret to admiration and
always a sense of being grateful for what has been rather than ruing the
passing of time. With some excellent production values and a real clarity and
honesty about the sound this is not just an impressive debut, this is a
beautiful song.
