SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTER – SINGLE REVIEW

Sophie Ellis-Bexter – A Pessimist is Never
Sophie Ellis-Bexter - A Pessimist is Never Disappointed
Disappointed

Release Date: Out Now

I’ve always felt that if she were French, Sophie Ellis-Bexter’s polished, aloof vocal style would have made her a global icon and thinking man (and woman’s) pin-up. As it is, I think her talents have always been slightly underrated so I’m really glad to see her revisiting some of her excellent earlier material from her days as frontwoman of Theaudience. ‘A Pessimist is Never Disappointed’ is one of the least hailed Britpop anthems but with this new slowed down orchestral arrangement you get to revel in Ellis-Bexter’s cool delivery of superbly British wit and wisdom like “this is the highlight of your miserable life” and “I must be humble when I’m praised”. Maybe this is the time for Ellis-Bexter to finally step in to the spotlight as the Duchess of the Dancefloor.
