Rock legends Alice In Chains are releasing a 90-minute film, ‘Black Antenna’, split over ten episodes, each one with a unique soundtrack written by the band – nice, eh? The first two episodes are out now starting with ‘The One You Know’ which is a typically and epically brutal track that starts with stabbing, Psycho-esque guitars and a sledgehammer of a rhythm section (and if you don’t think a sledgehammer is hard enough then I should clarify that I’m picturing it being applied to a ribcage). The chorus is soaring, anthemic and almost uplifting but soon gives way to that lurching verse rhythm while the visuals unfold the beginning of a story that is as disturbing as it is compelling.

‘Rainier Fog’ is the second half of this release and picks up the story with a more straight forward rock track that you might expect from Foo Fighters but that doesn’t diminish the power or the impact. The narrative will hook in anyone with an interest in sci-fi or conspiracy theories (which includes me) and the music works perfectly – the subtitles turn this in to a 21^st century version of a silent movie but that’s a genre that was long overdue a comeback anyway so who needs talkies?
