Brooklyn collective Snarky Puppy have enough members for a football team (American or actual football) but they’ve chosen the path of music and for that we should all be grateful. New single ‘Xavi’ is slung around a deeply funky bass groove and popping percussion before the rest of the cake gets layered on top. That cake is made of some gorgeous flute, a lush horn section, a sprinkling of tightly strung guitar and the kind of vibe that normally comes with the incidental music of a particularly cool American cop show – y’know, with flares, cool cars and impeccable hair. Sure, this is a nine minute wig out of a track but if you fancy a wig out then this is your best bet. Come on in, the water is lovely….and paisley. Which is odd.
